Using both traditional gouges and power tools, Lace McMillen thoughtfully fashions wood of many species into heirloom works of art.

When Lace was growing up she used to enjoy watching her father build greenhouses and complex greenhouse benches (unfortunately when she got to help she usually got stuck with sanding). So, after leaving a career in the legal industry, she decided to revisit the craft of woodworking for herself, and quickly became captivated by the incredible beauty of the myriad of species of woods.

Although many of her carvings appear to contain elements (such as flowers, a cross, or a bookmark) that were carved separately and then later attached, Lace enjoys the challenge of making her carvings out of one single piece of wood.

Lace is based in Maryland, but has shipped her carvings across the globe… and she still adores the smell of sawdust from the days of working with her dad.
